Northeast Iowa, also known as the "driftless area," offers an abundance of canoing opportunities along some of the the most scenic U.S. rivers.  Nearest to Monona is the Yellow River, which is situated just North and East by a few minutes.  In addition to the Yellow River, the Turkey River runs to the West and South of Monona and the Upper Iowa  is situated North about 30 minutes. These sections of river wind between the gently rolling bluffs, prairie corn fields and secluded forest areas of picturesque Northeast Iowa. 

In addition to taking in the scenery, you may want to bring along your poles as these rivers contain some of the best trout fishing in the Midwest. Don't be surprised to see white-tail deer or maybe a bald eagle among the abundant wild life. This area also has exceptional fall scenery.
