Butterfly Garden & Trails
The Butterfly Garden and Trail is located on the west edge of Monona near the Family Aquatic Center and the High School recreation fields. It currently consists of a wildlife corridor and 3,100 foot trail to be used by area residents for exercise, recreation, and wildlife viewing. Along the trails for various trees, shrubs, and benches donated to the garden and trail in memory of a love one. Today an estimated 30-50 people use the trail daily in addition to the volunteers who continually develop their plots in the garden area.
Recently Monona has been awarded just over $36,000.00 in another (REAP) grant to extend the trail nearly doubling its original size. When this project is finished the trail will be extended approximately 2,742 feet. It will encompass about .5 acres in the southwest portion of Monona. The trail will provide more opportunities for passive and active recreation and will connect three of Monona's public gardens, two of which are memorial gardens.
We are always looking for volunteers who are willing and able to help us maintain the gardens and trail. If you're interested in volunteering, please call or email the Chamber office.
We gladly accept donations for the gardens, whether it be memorials for a loved one or cash donations. If you are interested in making a donation, please call or email the Chamber office.
